Root Canal Treatment in Al Barsha

Signs you may need a root canal
Inside every tooth is soft tissue called the pulp, which holds the nerve and blood vessels. Deep decay, a crack or a knock can let bacteria reach it and cause infection. Common signs are:
- Toothache that throbs, wakes you up or lingers after hot or cold drinks.
- Pain when biting or touching the tooth.
- Swelling or a small pimple on the gum near the tooth.
- A tooth that has turned darker than its neighbours.
Sometimes there are no symptoms at all and the infection is only seen on an X-ray. If you have swelling or severe pain, see our emergency dentist page.
How much does root canal treatment cost in Dubai?
At Healthpoint, root canal treatment starts from AED 399 per tooth. Back teeth have more canals than front teeth, so they usually cost more. A crown to protect the tooth afterwards is priced separately. You can pay in instalments with Tabby or Tamara, subject to their approval.
Root canal treatment, step by step
- X-ray and diagnosisThe dentist examines the tooth and takes an X-ray to see the roots and any infection.
- NumbingLocal anaesthetic numbs the tooth and the area around it.
- Cleaning the canalsThe infected tissue is removed and the canals are cleaned and shaped with fine instruments.
- Filling the canalsThe canals are sealed with a rubber-like material, sometimes at a second visit.
- Restoring the toothA filling closes the tooth. Back teeth often need a crown afterwards to protect them from cracking.
Root canal or extraction?
Keeping your own tooth is usually the better choice for chewing and for the teeth around it. If a tooth cannot be saved, it can be removed and the gap filled with an implant, a bridge or a denture. The dentist explains both routes, and their costs, so you can decide.
Risks and side effects
- The tooth is often tender to bite on for a few days after each visit.
- Occasionally the area flares up with pain or swelling between visits and needs to be seen.
- Some teeth have curved or blocked canals that make treatment harder, and a small number need re-treatment or referral to a specialist.
- Rarely, a fine instrument can break inside a canal.
- A back tooth without a crown after root canal treatment is more likely to crack.
Results vary from tooth to tooth. Your dentist explains the risks for your own case before you decide.
Aftercare
- Avoid chewing on the tooth until it has its final filling or crown.
- Take ordinary pain relief as advised for tenderness in the first days.
- Contact us if you have swelling or pain that gets worse instead of better.
- Come back for the crown if one is recommended, to protect the tooth.
Frequently asked questions
How much is a root canal and crown at Healthpoint?
Root canal treatment starts from AED 399 per tooth, and a crown, if the tooth needs one, from AED 249 (PFM), AED 499 (zirconia) or AED 599 (e.max). So a root canal with a PFM crown starts from AED 648. Back teeth usually cost more than front teeth.
Would removing the tooth cost less than a root canal?
At first, yes: a simple extraction starts from AED 100 per tooth, against AED 399 for a root canal. If you later replace the tooth, a three-unit bridge starts from AED 747, a one-tooth partial denture from AED 349 and an implant from AED 3,500, so the dentist explains both routes and their costs before you decide.
Does a root canal hurt?
The treatment is done under local anaesthetic, so it usually feels similar to having a filling. The tooth may be tender to bite on for a few days afterwards.
How many visits does it take?
Usually one to three visits, depending on the tooth and how much infection there is.
Do I need a crown after a root canal?
Back teeth often do, because they become more brittle. Front teeth can often be restored with a filling. The dentist will advise for your tooth.
Can I work after a root canal?
Most people return to work the same day once the numbness wears off.
