Braces adjustment prices

Prices are estimates. Your dentist confirms the final price after examining your teeth. Instalments with Tabby or Tamara are subject to their approval.

What happens at an adjustment

Braces move teeth slowly by putting gentle, steady pressure on them through the wire. Over a few weeks that pressure fades, so the wire needs to be tightened, bent or replaced to keep your teeth moving in the right direction. That is what an adjustment visit is for.

At each visit the dentist checks how your teeth have moved, changes the wire or the small elastic ties around each bracket, re-glues any loose bracket and looks at your gums and cleaning. Most adjustments take 20 to 30 minutes.

Started your braces in another country?

Many of our patients began treatment in another country and moved to Dubai part-way through. Continuing someone else's treatment needs care, because the orthodontist has to understand what the first plan was trying to achieve before changing anything.

1. Bring your recordsAny X-rays, photos, your treatment plan or a letter from your previous dentist. If you have nothing, that is fine; we take new records.

3. Plan and priceYou are told what still needs to be done, roughly how long it may take and what each visit costs, before any adjustment.
4. Regular adjustmentsVisits every four to six weeks until your teeth reach their final position.

Sometimes the brackets used abroad are a different system from ours. If a bracket breaks, the orthodontist may replace it with a compatible one or, occasionally, suggest re-bonding a full set. You will always hear the reason and the price first.

Loose brackets, broken wires and braces removal

A bracket that comes off or a wire that pokes your cheek is common, especially after eating something hard. Call or message us and tell us which tooth it is, and we will tell you whether it needs a visit soon or can wait until your next adjustment.

When your teeth are in their final position, the braces are removed, the glue is polished off your teeth and you are fitted with retainers to hold the result. If you want your braces removed early, for example because you are leaving the UAE, the dentist will explain what that means for your teeth before going ahead.

How much do braces adjustments cost?

An adjustment visit starts from AED 150. Bracket replacement and braces removal are priced at your visit, before any work starts, and retainers after braces start from AED 499. You can pay by cash, card or bank transfer, or with Tabby or Tamara, subject to their approval.

Risks and side effects

• Teeth usually feel sore or tender for one to three days after an adjustment.
• Long gaps between adjustments can slow treatment down, and teeth can drift.
• Continuing treatment planned by another dentist can take longer than first expected, because the plan sometimes needs changing.
• Poor cleaning around brackets can cause white marks, cavities and gum swelling.
• Teeth can move back after braces come off if retainers are not worn as advised.

Aftercare

• Eat soft food for a day or two after an adjustment if your teeth feel tender.
• Use orthodontic wax on any bracket or wire that rubs.
• Brush after meals and clean between brackets with small interdental brushes.
• Keep your adjustment appointments every four to six weeks.
