Types of dentures we make

  • Full dentureReplaces all the teeth in the upper or lower jaw. Made from acrylic and held in place by fitting closely to your gums.
  • Partial dentureReplaces one or more missing teeth when you still have some of your own. Small clasps hold it to the neighbouring teeth.
  • Flexible partial dentureMade from a softer, bendable material with gum-coloured clasps, so it is less visible than metal clasps.
  • Denture with bracesA removable denture with braces brackets fitted on top of the denture teeth. Read more.

If you would rather have teeth that stay fixed in place, ask about bridges or implants at your consultation. Two or more implants can also hold a denture firmly so it does not slip.

Making your denture, step by step

  1. Free consultationThe dentist examines your mouth and explains which type of denture suits you.
  2. Getting your mouth readyAny extractions or fillings that are needed are done first, so the denture fits healthy gums and teeth.
  3. ImpressionsMoulds of your mouth are taken so the denture is shaped to fit you.
  4. Bite and tooth colourWe record how your jaws meet and choose a tooth shade and shape with you.
  5. Try-inYou try a wax version to check the fit, look and bite before the final denture is made.
  6. Fitting and reviewYour denture is fitted, and a follow-up visit smooths any spots that rub.

If teeth need removing first

After an extraction, the gums and bone change shape as they heal, over about two to three months. A denture made too early can become loose as this happens. Ask the dentist whether a temporary denture suits you, so you are not without teeth while you heal; it is then relined or replaced once your gums have settled. Read our extraction aftercare guide for the first days after a tooth is removed.

Getting used to a new denture

  • Speaking: some words can sound different for the first days. Reading aloud helps your tongue and lips adjust quickly.
  • Eating: start with soft food cut into small pieces, and chew on both sides at once so the denture stays steady. Move on to firmer food over a few weeks.
  • Sore spots: common in the first weeks. Come back and the dentist smooths the area; do not file or bend the denture yourself.
  • Saliva: your mouth may make more saliva at first. This settles within days.

Denture repair and adjustments

A cracked base, a broken or missing tooth, or a denture that has become loose or rubs your gums can usually be fixed. We also repair dentures that were made in another clinic or another country. Bring your denture in, and the dentist will tell you what the repair involves, how long it takes and the price.

Over time your gums and jawbone change shape, so a denture that once fitted well can become loose. A reline reshapes the fitting surface to match your gums again, without making a whole new denture.

How long dentures last

With good care, many dentures last about five to ten years. Because the gums and bone under a denture keep slowly shrinking, most need relining after a few years to stay comfortable, and the teeth on the denture wear down over time. Signs it is time for a check are a denture that feels loose, clicks, rubs or makes chewing harder. Come for a check-up once a year, even if you have no natural teeth left, so the dentist can check your gums and the fit.

Risks and side effects

  • It takes a few weeks to get used to speaking and eating with a new denture.
  • Sore spots are common at first and are fixed with small adjustments.
  • Gums and bone shrink over time, so dentures may need relining or remaking after some years.
  • Without daily cleaning, dentures can cause bad breath, gum irritation and fungal infection.
  • The natural teeth that hold a partial denture need careful cleaning to avoid decay.

Results vary from person to person. Your dentist explains the risks for your own case before you decide.

Aftercare

  • Take your denture out at night unless the dentist advises otherwise.
  • Clean it every day with a soft brush and a denture cleaner, not regular toothpaste.
  • Handle it over a folded towel or a basin of water so it does not break if dropped.
  • Keep it in water or a cleaning solution when it is out of your mouth.
  • Come back if it rubs, feels loose or breaks. Do not try to adjust it yourself.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a denture cost, for one tooth or a full set?

A partial acrylic denture for one tooth starts from AED 349 (AED 250 plus AED 99 per tooth), and a flexible partial denture for one tooth from AED 499. Full dentures start from AED 1,499. The exact price for you is given at the free consultation.

How long does it take to make a denture?

Usually about two to four weeks over three to five visits. If teeth need to be removed first, the gums need time to heal before the final denture is made.

What is the difference between acrylic and flexible dentures?

Acrylic dentures are rigid and can be added to or repaired easily. Flexible partial dentures bend slightly and have gum-coloured clasps, so they are less visible. The dentist will tell you which suits your mouth.

Can I eat normally with dentures?

Most people eat comfortably after a few weeks of practice. Start with soft food cut into small pieces and chew on both sides at once.

Can you repair a broken denture, including one made elsewhere?

Usually, yes, from AED 149, wherever the denture was made. Bring it in and the dentist explains the repair, how long it takes and the price before starting.

What is a denture with braces?

It is a removable denture with braces brackets fitted on top of the denture teeth. It does not move your natural teeth. See our denture with braces page for details.

How long do dentures last?

Often about five to ten years with good care. Most need relining after a few years as the gums change shape, and a yearly check-up shows when a reline or a new denture is due.

Should I sleep with my denture in?

Usually no. Taking it out at night rests your gums and lowers the risk of irritation and fungal infection. Keep it in water or a cleaning solution overnight, unless the dentist advises otherwise.

Do I need denture adhesive?

A well-fitting denture should not need adhesive, though some people like a little for extra confidence, especially with a lower full denture. If you need more and more adhesive, the denture probably needs relining.

Will people notice I am wearing a denture?

Usually not. The teeth are matched to your shade and face shape, and flexible partial dentures have gum-coloured clasps instead of metal ones. You choose the look with the dentist at the try-in.
